Although we always feel like there’s plenty of time ahead, Christmas will be here before you know it. So why not get a jump on your holiday shopping?
Kids are usually pretty good at letting you know exactly what they want when it comes to presents. Growing up, I anxiously awaited the arrival of the JCPenney Christmas catalog in the mail so I could circle exactly which toys I wanted Santa to leave under the tree for me to find Christmas morning. I’m guessing kids these days have a more high-tech ritual, like creating an Amazon Wish List.
If you’re thinking, “Yeah, but it’s way too early for my kids to know what they’re going to want come December,” the retailers are one step ahead of you. Both Toys “R” Us and Walmart have put in the work to determine which toys will be among the hottest items on every kid’s list this year. Trust us when we tell you that their extensive research has allowed them to predict what your kids are going to beg for before they know what they’re going to beg for.
Check out this list of eight items from both retailers’ lists that are sure to make your kids scream with delight once the holidays roll around.
1. Minnie Mouse Fun Activity Gym (Toys “R” Us)
If you have a little, little one on your shopping list, you’re going to want to snag this adorable Minnie Mouse-themed activity gym. This toy is not only super-cute, it’s also functional, and will keep babies busy for hours with features like a self-discovery mirror and a butterfly teether.
2. Fingerlings (Walmart)
These tiny monkey toys hang onto kids’ fingers and respond to sound, motion and touch by blinking, turning their heads and babbling. They’ll even return the favor when you blow them a kiss!
3. Barbie Pink Passport Cruise Ship Playset (Toys “R” Us)
As a kid, I would have positively flipped for this Barbie cruise ship-themed playset, complete with a pool and two pink slides.
4. Nerf Rival Nemesis MXVII-10K (Walmart)
Nerf toys were all the rage when I was growing up, and apparently today’s kids are still into the spongy toys. This Nerf gun has a hopper that holds up to 100 high-impact rounds. Watch out!
5. Imaginarium Power Rails Gold Mountain Train Set (Toys “R” Us)
This remote control train set has two drive-through tunnels. When the train stops at the lower track, gold rocks tumble down the chutes ready for loading into the cargo car.
6. Soggy Doggy Board Game (Walmart)
In today’s technology-driven world, you may think board games are simply too old-fashioned for modern kids. Walmart says otherwise. The goal of this fun-filled game is to make your way around the board before you get soaked by the soggy dog.
7. Nintendo Switch With Gray Joy-Con (Toys “R” Us)
OK, so while classic toys like board games and train sets might still be popular with kids, you knew something high-tech was going to make it onto the list at some point. Nintendo’s latest video game system can be taken on the go so kids can play anytime, anywhere.
8. Huffy Green Machine Tricycle (Walmart)
Adventure seekers will love this super-charged tricycle that is capable of making 180-degree spins. Just make sure they wear a helmet!
