Tia Mowry Gets Real About Motherhood At 40: ‘I Don’t Have Time For Mess’
Moms, can you relate?
Tia Mowry just welcomed her second child, a baby girl named Cairo Tiahna Hardrict, and she also celebrated another major milestone — turning 40.
She and her twin sister (and co-star in “Sister, Sister”), Tamera Mowry-Housely, rang in their 40th birthdays on July 6, just a month after the baby was born.
And now that she’s 40 and a new mom of two, she doesn’t have time to mess around. She knows what works for her, and she’s proud of it.
“I’m just going to be really honest with you. Now that I’m 40, I don’t have time for mess anymore,” she said in an interview with E! News. “I know what I want. I know what I’m going after. I have a small group of friends because when you’re younger, it’s all about popularity but that doesn’t matter for me now. It’s about quality vs. quantity.”
Preach it, mama!
Given her experience, she’s learned a lot about not putting unrealistic pressures on herself, and she’s showcased that throughout her most recent pregnancy.
“I feel happy in my skin. I feel confident and I feel like as you get older, you learn more about who you are and you embrace who you are and just go with the flow of life and go with the punches,” she told E! News.

One look at her Instagram feed, and you can tell she lives by these words.
Since adding a second child to her family, she’s posted about what a day in the life of a mom of two really looks like, capturing herself in all of her “#teamnosleep” glory on Instagram:
She’s also posting inspiring words, especially to new moms, about loving your postpartum body:
“Some #pregnant women after giving birth no longer have a belly after 7 weeks. While others it may take a little longer. Me, I’m the latter,” she wrote. “To be honest, it had to take time for me to embrace my new body. With this second pregnancy, I now have embraced that fact that I’ve housed a human being. A miracle. A life. If it takes a while for me to get back to my normal self, than so be it. This.Is.Me. And I love me.”
She hopes other moms are empowered to feel the same way.
“I’m just taking my time and I’m also allowing women out there that you don’t necessarily have to go back to yourself right away,” she told E! News. “It took you almost 10 months or a year to grow a baby. And it’s going to take time for you to get back to yourself.”
And in the meantime, she hopes women embrace every wrinkle and stretch mark along the way:
“We all go through cycles,” Mowry told Self magazine after welcoming her first child. “That’s life. We don’t have to be perfect, so embrace your imperfections.”
This 40-year-old mom of two is killing it, and she’s here to remind you — you are, too!
