A Persistent Rumor Suggests ‘The Office’ May Be Coming Back
Let's not get ahead of ourselves, but how exciting would this be?!
Word on the internet (which, let’s be honest, is what passes for the street here in 2017) is that NBC’s much-beloved comedy show “The Office” is being rebooted for 2018. And fans are going absolutely postal for the news.
The rumor comes from TVLine, who published an article yesterday saying that the network was considering bringing the smash hit show back next year. Reportedly, it’s something network president Bob Greenblatt has been thinking about for awhile, as he told TVLine’s sister site Deadline: “We often talk about ‘The Office.’ I’ve talked to Greg [Daniels] four times over the past few years. It’s always, ‘Maybe someday, but not now.'”
But with the reboot of “Will and Grace” doing really well with both critics and consumers (it was even nominated for a Golden Globe), maybe now is the time. So far, fan reaction has shown that this might be so:
When you realize Christmas is 6 days away and that the Office is coming back in 2018.

if the Office is actually coming back ima start ugly crying

If the show does in fact get revived, it will take place at the same fictional company (Dunder Mifflin) in the same fictional location (Scranton, Pennsylvania). But there are no guarantees on whether or not the original cast members—like Mindy Kaling, Rainn Wilson, Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski—will be returning. Steve Carell, who starred as Dunder Mifflin’s boss Michael Scott, will definitely not be returning, however. And that fact has plenty of fans up in arms:
"The Office is planning a return"
"Steve Carell will not be a part of it"

I refuse to watch the Office without Steve Carell in it https://t.co/gRpmvw19Zw

Regardless of how many (if any) of the original cast join the purported reboot, it’s important to know that NBC has not yet confirmed any of the speculation about the return of “The Office.” In fact, the network declined to comment or confirm or deny any details or rumors at all.
So don’t set your DVRs just yet, Dunder Mifflin fans—give it a few months to see if a revival will truly materialize or not. And if not, you always have nine seasons on Netflix!
