‘Roseanne’ Is Officially Returning To ABC In 2018
The Conners are back—with BOTH Beckys!
Get ready to welcome the Conners back to TV! The classic sitcom “Roseanne” will return to ABC next season.
The network dropped the news about the eight-episode series during its annual fall TV lineup announcement. And, we’re pretty excited to see what the Conner family is up to today!
The announcement comes just in time to celebrate the show’s 30th anniversary of its debut on the network.
“Roseanne” Still Relevant
The original “Roseanne” sitcom ran from 1988 to 1997. However, the story of the blue-collar family trying to make it in the world still rings true today, according to ABC executives.
“The Conners’ joys and struggles are as relevant—and hilarious—today as they were then, and there’s really no one better to comment on our modern America than Roseanne,” said Channing Dungey, president of ABC entertainment.
During its original 222-episode, nine-season run, “Roseanne” enjoyed incredible success. The show held a top-10 viewing rank for all but its last two seasons. Collectively, “Roseanne” won four Emmy awards (one for Roseanne Barr and three for Laurie Metcalf, who played Roseanne’s sister Jackie) and was nominated for many more.
Original Cast Set To Return—Including Both Beckys
The sitcom reboot intends to bring back most of the original cast, according to the ABC announcement.
In addition to Barr returning as the family matriarch, John Goodman will take back the helm as hard-working husband/dad Dan Conner. All of the Conner children are on board for the revival, including Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Michael Fishman (D.J.) and Lecy Goranson (Becky).
You may remember Goranson left the original series in later seasons of the show. Actress Sarah Chalke took her place playing the big sister in the Conner family. Amazingly, Chalke is slated to also return to the show, but will be featured in a different role. Now that should be interesting! Metcalf will also return to play Jackie, which is fantastic. After all, the show would not be the same without her.
ABC did not announce a specific date for the upcoming series. However, the network anticipates the launch sometime in 2018.

Not The First Reunion For Two “Roseanne” Stars
The upcoming reboot will not be the first reunion for two of the show’s stars. Just a few months ago, Sara Gilbert and John Goodman reprised their famous “Roseanne” roles in a sketch for Gilbert’s show “The Talk.” Maybe this little reunion inspired Barr and the network to bring back the entire family!
