You know you look forward to watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade just before you induce yourself into a food coma on Thanksgiving Day. But, this year, it’s going to be a little extra-special.
This year marks the 90th anniversary of New York City’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. That means families have been around to watch the parade together for 90 years now, and that’s no small feat.
There are going to be new additions to help celebrate the big 9-0, too. You can expect new additions, take the first-ever Krazy Glue Fun House float to debut in the parade, for example, as well as some upgrades to your favorite balloons that you see every year.
You see, not only is this the 90th anniversary of the parade, it’s also the 50th anniversary of the classic musical “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” as Martha Stewart points out.
In honor of this Peanuts anniversary, you can expect to see an all-new Charlie Brown balloon in the 2016 Macy’s Day Parade. Last year, there was a Snoopy balloon and Charlie Brown only appeared on the float, but this year, you can expect to see that lovable bigger-than-life Charlie Brown floating down the street again. Here’s the 2015 version:
This year, he’ll be in a running pose, holding not a football, but a red kite. According to Mashable, “The inspiration for this classic moment comes straight from the popular play. In one scene, Charlie Brown finally gets the kite off the ground, only to have that insane kite-eating tree snatch it out of the sky and devour it. It’s a perfect and memorable Peanuts tableau.”
The Peanuts balloons change each and every year, so each parade is different than the next. Sometimes Snoopy flies through the air, and sometimes it’s Charlie. But, each and every one is special, whether it’s the 90th Anniversary or not.
Tune in at 9:00 a.m. ET on Thanksgiving Day to see the action happen live.
