Here’s What Meghan Markle Is Up To Now That Her Maternity Leave Is Officially Over
We're excited to see what the duchess does next!
Exciting news for royal fans: It was announced that Meghan Markle will be making her first official, post-baby appearance next week in support of one of her charities, Smart Works, a non-profit organization that helps women re-enter the workforce by providing them with job training and free business-appropriate clothing. What a fitting message to promote as Markle returns to work from her own maternity leave.
During her appearance, the duchess of Sussex will reportedly give a speech, watch a panel discussion, meet with Smart Works representatives and debut the clothing line that she collaborated on with British brands like Marks & Spencer, Jigsaw, John Lewis, as well as her friend, designer Misha Nonoo, that will help benefit the charity. (We expect the workwear fashion collection to sell out immediately.)
According to royal insiders, this appearance will mark the end of her four-month maternity leave that began when she gave birth to baby Archie back in May. Although no one knew exactly how long Markle’s maternity leave was planned to last, some speculated that it could be as long as six months. Her sister-in-law, Duchess Kate, took five months of leave with her second and third children but just one month with her first-born, Prince George.
Royal reporter Emily Andrews shared the news on Twitter on Sept. 4:
Duchess Meghan will launch her new clothes line, in collaboration with @Jigsaw, @jlandpartners, @marksandspencer & pal @mishanonoo, next Thursday 12 Sept to support her patronage @SmartWorksHQ. The duchess has been credited for being especially hard-working and never fully disappearing from public life, even during her maternity leave, choosing to guest-edit the September issue of British Vogue and make appearances at Trooping the Colour and Wimbledon over the summer.
Now, that’s she officially back to work, we expect that we will see and hear a lot more from Markle in the coming months — especially with the plans for her, Prince Harry and baby Archie to visit South Africa on an upcoming royal tour.
