McDonald’s Is Testing Blueberry McGriddles Breakfast Sandwiches

This sounds sweet and savory!

Can’t choose between salty and sweet when it comes to breakfast? Soon, McDonald’s will have you covered with the introduction of three blueberry McGriddles breakfast sandwiches. The new sandwiches come in the following combinations: sausage, egg and cheese; bacon, egg and cheese; and sausage. All three versions are sandwiched in between two blueberry pancakes. They’re being tested exclusively at about 100 McDonald’s locations throughout metropolitan Washington, D.C.

“The Blueberry McGriddles breakfast sandwich will satisfy both the sweet and savory senses,” Carol Martino, culinary innovation spokesperson for McDonald’s USA, said in a press release. “The flavors from the real blueberries balanced with the sweet taste of maple reminds me of the blueberry pancakes my mother used to make for us growing up. Imagine that combined with your choice of sizzling breakfast sausage or thick cut bacon nestled under a creamy slice of American cheese and fluffy egg. It’s everything you love about breakfast in one sandwich.”

That does sound like the perfect solution for when you just can’t choose between a sweet treat or a hearty, savory morning meal. If it’s a hit, hopefully, it will be rolled out nationwide. The sandwiches are a twist on the regular McGriddles sandwiches, which feature soft, warm griddle cakes with the sweet taste of maple.

Instagram user @junk_fil_a tried out the new sandwich, naming the bacon, egg and cheese version as their favorite of the trio.

“If you like blueberries, you’ve got to go out and find these McGriddles,” read the caption of the photos showcasing the new sandwiches:
