Let’s say you’re planning an outdoor party for the kids or a few of your closest friends. You’ve got the decorations for the festivities, but you want something a little extra. Confetti is always a fun way to add a little flair to the tables and even to toss — but, at the risk of sounding like Debbie Downer, did you know that much of the confetti sold these days is foil- or plastic-based and therefore not biodegradable?
Confetti that’s harmful to the environment isn’t worth celebrating. So, how about making it out of something natural instead — say, leaves? That’s what the bloggers at I Do Y’all came up with and we think it’s a great idea!
Beyond the benefit to the planet, we love how easy this elegant, eco-friendly confetti is to make. You really only need three things to pull this party favor together: leaves, scissors and a hole punch.
Nature provides so many colors on her trees. So, if you are looking for a specific color scheme, it can be fun to go on a leaf hunt on your own or with the kids. Take a walk and look around and see what your trees have to offer. Find leaves that have already fallen off trees or bring the scissors with you and snip off a few of the ones you like (after making sure you have permission, of course)!
I Do Y’all recommends finding foliage of all different shapes and sizes. You’ll want some variety in your confetti and it starts with the leaves you choose. In the blog’s example, they mostly used plain green leaves and the confetti still looked good, so imagine how it would look with a blend of colorful fall foliage!
Once you gathered your leaves, you can bring them home and get ready for some fun! Use the hole punch to make little pieces of confetti.
After that, it’s time to gather your DIY confetti and decide how you want to use it. You can put it in bags for the party guests or use it for a unique table decoration. The choice is yours!
And once the party’s done, you can sweep it outside and not feel any guilt whatsoever, because it’s literally a pile of leaves!
