Flying with kids is often expensive, stressful, chaotic — and did we mention expensive? That’s why a new deal with Frontier Airlines is a welcome way to make flying friendlier and cheaper.
For a $60 annual fee, you can join Frontier’s Discount Den and get free domestic flight tickets for each child aged 14 and under traveling with a paying adult.
The Discount Den membership also allows you to get the lowest airfare rates on up to six people in one booking.
A few other details: There are blackout dates when you can’t use the Kids Fly Free discount, and a flight must be marked as “Kids Fly Free” when you book online.
Because Frontier is a low-cost carrier, you’ll have to pay for baggage, picking a seat and other add-ons, such as in-flight food. Since parents will typically want to sit by their kids, make sure to calculate the cost of reserving seats together.
You should also make sure to factor in the potential price of luggage. Carry-on bags over a certain size will also cost you.
However, strollers, car seats and diaper bags don’t count.
Considering almost no other airlines offer a “fly free” discount up to age 14, this seems like a good deal, especially for frequent flyers.
As Frontier put it, “We aren’t just talking about the small-enough-to-sit-on-your-lap kids. We’re including the tall-enough-to-ride-the-big-rides kids, the mom-I’m-not-a-baby-anymore kids, or the oh-my-gosh-they’re-almost-driving kids.”
And Frontier, which is headquartered in Denver, flies to more than 80 U.S. cities, meaning you have a lot of flexibility in your travel choices.
In addition to the Kids Fly Free option, buying a Discount Den membership will also unlock plenty of other benefits, including the lowest fare prices for up to six people on your itinerary.
