Where You Can Donate To Honor The Sandy Hook Shooting Victims
This year marks the five year anniversary of this horrific tragedy.
Five years ago, our nation was shook to its core when the news of the Sandy Hook massacre hit the news. Americans everywhere were traumatized and heartbroken when they learned that 20 innocent children were gunned down in their school, along with six faculty members.
Now, on the five year anniversary of this horrific tragedy, Americans are coming together once again. This time they honor the beloved children and teachers that were lost, and to donate in remembrance of these beautiful and precious lives which were senselessly cut short.
If you would like to donate in memory of the children and teachers who lost their lives, and to help bring comfort and healing to their families, here are some organizations which have been set up in honor of Sandy Hook victims:
Sandy Hook Promise
This is a group which works to prevent gun-related deaths due to crime, suicide and accidental discharge so that no other parent experiences the senseless, horrific loss of their child. In part, this organization works to build awareness about gun violence, such as through releasing powerful PSAs about which highlight the possible reality of another Sandy Hook in our future. Here is their PSA for 2017, which they just released to help kids, parents and teachers to learn the warning signs of gun violence. Warning, it’s quite powerful and frightening:

What Would Daniel Do
This beautiful initiative was set up to honor 7-year-old Sandy Hook victim Daniel Barden, who was known for his kindness and loving spirit.
The goal of What Would Daniel Do is simple: To encourage children and adults to practice empathy and kindness and to help build a much-needed sense of community in this broken world. To donate, visit their YouCaring page or buy a bracelet to help spread this message and keep Daniel’s memory and his loving spirit alive.
Safe & Sound Schools
Safe & Sound Schools was created by the families of victims who were killed in the Sandy Hook massacre. Their mission is to create safe learning environments across the country where no child need fear a school shooting. To this end, they hold speaking engagements, work closely with politicians and lawmakers, and help inspire students to take an active role in keeping their schools safe, such as with the Safe & Sound Youth Council.
According to their website, “The Safe & Sound Youth Council is a nationwide network of motivated students who share a passion to provide safer and more secure schools for one another, their educators, and their communities.”
This charity was set up in honor of Mary Sherlach who was the school psychologist at Sandy Hook. She reportedly jumped at the gunman in order to stop his attack, sacrificing her life in order to help keep the precious children under her care safe.
Following her tragic yet heroic death, Mary’s friends and family set up Mary’s Fund, an organization which works to support programs that aid the mental and social wellness of children and adolescents. This is very fitting, as this was the work that Mary devoted her life to. To donate, please visit Mary’s Fund webpage.
There are many other organizations which you can support in memory of the Sandy Hook children and teachers. Find more Sandy Hook charities here.
