Pastry chef Thiago Silva created a treat so good it’ll make you feel like it’s your birthday. People are going wild for the birthday cake croissants at the bakery inside New York restaurant Union Fare—and yes, they are a thing of dreams.
I first heard about the croissants after doing research on must-dos in New York City. As you can imagine, when I discovered birthday cake croissants, I just had to stop in to this Union Square restaurant.
In my opinion, these decadent treats are the perfect combination of croissant and birthday cake—complete with icing. The outside is topped with powdered sugar and sprinkles and the inside oozes a sweet funfetti frosting. It was the best excuse to eat cake for breakfast—because yes, this sweet treat was the first thing I’d had all morning.
These birthday cake croissants gained popularity online once people found out that Union Fare was serving them. But you’re in luck. You don’t have to pay a visit to NYC to get a taste of this sweet concoction.
There are several recipes online that will allow you to whip up a batch of these baked goods on your own. Making homemade croissants is a little tricky, but lucky for us, Spoon University found a way to majorly simplify the recipe. They used pre-made puff pastry and pre-made frosting to bring their version to life. You can see the full recipe on their website.
I like this recipe from The Chunky Chef, too, which only takes 25 minutes from start to finish. And the results, as you can see, are mouthwateringly lovely!
The Sweeten YouTube channel shows how to create mini versions, too. Because the only way birthday cake croissants could be any cuter is if they were miniature form, obviously.
