Billie Joe Armstrong From Green Day Has A New Band
The punk rocker has teamed up with another big name in music—and for a good cause!
Fans of punk rock band Green Day, we have some good news for you.
Green Day front man, Billie Joe Armstrong, and Rancid front man, Tim Armstrong (no relation), have teamed up to form a new band, aptly named… wait for it… The Armstrongs!
The new band is a family affair, as it also includes Billie Joe’s son 22-year-old son, Joey (below), and Tim’s nephew, Rey.
Check out the release of their newly released track, “If There Was Ever A Time.”
Fans are chiming in about their excitement over the new group.
“This is amazing and makes me realize again how much I love Billie’s voice,” one user commented on the YouTube video.
“Both my fave bands’ vocalists do a collab! Awesome!” said another.
The new tune was recorded for a good cause, with 100 percent of its proceeds going to 924 Gillman, a nonprofit music and community space in Berkley, California, where both rockers played when they were just starting out.
Billie Joe announced the release of the song on July 14 via Twitter—and also promoted the purchase of 1,000 limited-edition flexi disc versions of the song.

The song is also featured in the documentary “Turn It Around: The Story of East Bay Punk,” an in-depth look at the San Francisco-area punk scene featuring show footage, photos and interviews with musicians.
Donating their profits isn’t the musicians’ only good deed. Green Day and Rancid were recently on tour together in Europe, where they took time out of their busy schedule to visit rescue animals at the Assisi Animal Sanctuary in Northern Ireland. Aww, these punk rockers really have a heart!
Can’t get enough of The Armstrongs? While there’s no word on whether they’ll be releasing a full-length album or doing any live performances, you can catch Green Day on tour in North America through September, and you can see Rancid through the end of August.
