‘Arrested Development’ Season 5 And A ‘remix’ Of Season 4 Are Coming To Netflix
Your summer just got a whole lot funnier … because the Bluths are back, baby! The quirky comedy “Arrested Development” is returning to Netflix with a fifth season as well as a “remix” of season four.
But what exactly is a does a “remix” of season four mean? Creator Mitch Hurwitz took to Twitter in order to explain. Essentially, what happened in season four was that each episode focused on one individual character, with each character’s storyline then being woven together as the season progressed.
As Hurwitz explained in his Twitter note, this technique is what’s known as a “Rashomon” storyline. It’s a term taken from the 1950s Japanese film by Akira Kurosawa “Rashomon,” in which a murder is shown from four characters’ conflicting points of view.
However, not everyone loved this Rashomon technique when it was applied to “Arrested Development.” In fact, this was one of the major complaints that fans had about season four, with New York Times critic Mike Hale calling it “‘Rashomon’ on steroids.”
But now creator Mike Hurwitz has taken some time to re-edit the fourth season into something slightly different. As he explains in his note, he spent some time “shuffling the content from 15 individualized stories into 22 interwoven stories the length of the original series”:

As a result, we have a whole new season four to enjoy, and the 15 episode remix will be available to watch on May 4 on Netflix. This is huge news because season four was always a divisive season for long-time fans, and now with this remixed version, viewers might finally take to the new storyline thanks to the remixed edits.
But that’s not all! To sweeten the deal, we also have a brand-new fifth season of “Arrested Development” coming in the near future as well, starring all your favorites: Jason Batement, Will Arnett, Micheal Cera, Portia de Rossi and the others.
We don’t have an official release date yet for season five, but it’s rumored to be “soon” and it will allegedly focus on the passing of Lucille Two (played by Liza Minelli).
