Amy Schumer Says She Has ‘no Other Choice’ But To Be A Big Tipper
The famous comedian has been known to leave $1,000 tips.
Amy Schumer has often made headlines for the giant tips she leaves hospitality staff.
Last year, she famously left a $1,000 tip on a $77 bar tab at the musical “Hamilton,” and just recently she bought a $2,000 mattress for a employee who let her use the bathroom.
Clearly, Schumer knows how to pay it forward, but what is behind her incredible generosity?
The funny woman recently shared her reasoning with Howard Stern on his Sirius XM radio show, saying “I worked in the service industry for 10 years,” adding that “it does make me feel great and I feel like I have no other choice.”
In fact, Schumer believes that all rich celebrities should be doing the same. She tells Stern, “Are people with money not doing stuff like this? I think they should do more, because you’ll feel better. And then they’ll do that for someone else, you hope.”
Schumer is right: Other celebrities do leave major tips. Taylor Swift once left a server a $500 tip on a $800 bill. David Beckham once left $1000 for a server, even though he was only drinking mineral water, and Johnny Depp tipped a server at Gibson’s Steakhouse in Chicago $4,000.
Jay-Z may take the cake, however, with the $50,000 tip he left on a six-figure bill that included a $250,000 bottle of champagne back in 2011.
Being a millionaire doesn’t naturally make you generous with money, so kudos to Amy Schumer for spreading her wealth around and hopefully encouraging other celebrities to step up and do the same.
And not only is the comedian generous with staff, she is also very giving with her relatives as well: She recently bought back her family’s farm for her father. (They had lost the farm when Amy was 9 years old after they went bankrupt.) How awesome is that?
Schumer really knows how to give… let’s hope she inspires similar behavior in others!
